Midwest Socialist is a magazine for/by midwestern chapters of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). I developed the brand and layout for the magazine with Russian constructivism in mind for its ties to movements for social change. As a result the design uses minimal color, diagonal elements, collage and a balance of bold, scattered and minimal type treatment. The rose is an important symbol for the DSA, because we are interested in not only fair wages/economic justice (bread) but also human rights & dignity (roses).
